Crankshaft, Cylinder, Piston, Rod, Wrist Pin, and Rings

The crankshaft may need to be lightly polished to smooth the surface and remove any slight scratches. Start with 400 grit sandpaper and finish with 600 grit. Check the surfaces that contact the brass bushings. The original size was .873 and the crankshaft pictured on the right has less than .001 wear.

To remove the wrist pin, the cotter pin that extends through the wrist pin must first be removed. Hold the end of the cotter pin with a set of locking needle nose pliers. Use a small nail or small-ended screwdriver to press the sides of the cotter pin together. This is one of those steps when a third hand might be helpful because the pin will try to rotate if the pliers are not held secure.
