Chapter 3

Fuel Controls

The fuel system of the twin cylinder Maytag engine has a very simple design. The engine has no separate carburetor because it was designed to be a unit part of the crankcase. This chapter will cover the cleaning, inspection, and repair of the fuel system components. The air tube and its air adjustment cap are grouped here because each one serves a vital function in controlling fuel richness. The governor controls the quantity of fuel that is allowed to flow into the crankcase.

Loosen the lock nut on the small diameter air tube. It may be necessary to clamp the air tube in a vise to hold the assembly while this nut is loosened. Now the large diameter air tube can be unscrewed from the smaller tube.
